FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern held a slim 1-0 lead at the half but went on to a 3-1 win over North Alabama in the women's soccer season-opener for both schools.
A goal by Adanna Edwards in the 31
st minute put the Sharks on top 1-0 and it remained a one-goal match until the 77
th minute. Nova extended it to 2-0 on a goal by Alexys Nowak at the 76:30 mark and 3-0 on a Emma Heikkila goal at 80:17.
North Alabama finally got on the scoreboard at the 86:31 mark on a goal by
Shelby Wall on a penalty kick.
UNA was out-shot 22-7 in the match and the Lions' goalkeeper
Shelby Thornton had seven saves.
North Alabama travels to Miami Shores to play Barry Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
