FLORENCE, Ala. -- Junior
Shelby Wall scored a goal and added an assist to lead the University of North Alabama to a 2-1 win over Kennesaw State in the first ASUN Conference women's soccer match in UNA history.
North Alabama took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by
Tay Cavett in the 11th minute with Wall assisting. UNA extended the lead to 2-0 with Wall's goal at the 62:21 mark as
Margarida Sousa assisted.
Kennesaw State battled back to cut the lead in half with a goal by Isabella Contreras at 65:09. It was ehr first goal of the season.
The North Alabama defense and goalkeeper
Shelby Thornton held the Owls scoreless the rest of the way as the Lions improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Kennesaw State falls to 8-3-1 and 1-1 in the ASUN.
KSU out-shot UNA 15-12 and Thornton recorded seven saves for the Lions.
North Alabama continues in conference play with a match at Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, September 28.
