UNA TENNIS TEAMS FALL AT AUSTIN PEAY

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama men's and women's tennis teams each came up short at Austin Peay on Saturday. The UNA women lost a 7-0 decision while the men's team was edged 5-2 at the Governors Tennis Center on the ASPU campus. The losses leave the women's team with a 2-8 record on the season while the UNA men fall to 1-10.
 
Austin Peay grabbed the early lead in the women's match with doubles victories at No. 2 and No. 1. The Governors clinched the match with straight-sets wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles before finishing out with wins in the final three singles spots.
 
Megan Humphreys had the best showing for UNA. She lost a 7-5 opener at No. 3 before falling 6-3 in the second set.
 
On the men's side, Austin Peay won the doubles points before fighting off a UNA rally to hold on for the win. With the Governors leading 1-0, UNA's Gustavo Girao evened the score with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
 
ASPU again took a 2-1 lead before Cian Maguire rallied for a three-set victory at the top position. The sophomore lost the opening set 6-2 before extending the match with a 7-6 win in the second set that included a 7-5 tiebreaker victory. He tied the overall score for the Lions at 2-2 with a 6-2 victory in the third set.
 
The Governors took a 3-2 lead with a win at No. 6 singles before clinching the match with a three-set win at No. 2. Austin Peay finished off the scoring with another victory at the No. 5 spot.
