LIONS DROP DOUBLE-HEADER AT STETSON

DELAND, Fla. -- Stetson scored 22 runs on 18 hits on its way to a double-header sweep of North Alabama, 16-5 and 6-0.

The Lions threw eight pitchers in the double-header but were unable to cool off the bats of the Hatters.

UNA is now 0-4 on the season, while Stetson improved to 8-0.

In the opener, Stetson got a run in the first inning and North Alabama tied it with a run of its own in the second. The Hatters took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the third and UNA again answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

Stetson then blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning and an eight-run sixth for a 16-3 lead. UNA rallied for two runs in the seventh to make the final count 16-5.

Chase Best (0-1) started for UNA and took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits over four and a third innings.

Devne Daniel and Austin Thrasher led UNA with two hits each and both scored a run. Daniel also drove in two. Landon Langston, Ben Kiefer and Garrett Smith accounted for UNA's other hits as the Lions were out-hit 11-7.

Stetson took an early lead in the nightcap with a run in the second inning and used a five-run third inning to push its advantage to 6-0.

UNA managed just four hits in the second game and left four runners on base.

UNA starter Kyle Moore (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs, but just one earned, in two and two-thirds innings. Two Lion errors helped the Hatters plate four unearned runs. Bryce Parrish pitched the final three and a third innings and allowed one run on three hits.

The Lions and Hatters will conclude the four-game series with a single game Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
