LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A Drew Hudson single to lead off the third inning would prove to be the only offense of the night for the University of North Alabama as the Lions dropped a 4-0 decision to Liberty to open ASUN Conference play.

With the loss, UNA is 1-10 overall and 0-1 in ASUN play. Liberty is 8-5 and 0-1.

UNA starter Hunter Davidson (0-1) battled Liberty's Trevor Delaite to a scoreless tie through five innings before the Flames scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Davidson pitched six complete innings and scattered nine hits and allowed just one earned run.

Austin Emener pitched a scoreless seventh inning and John Lundgren allowed a run in the eighth to make the final count 4-0.

Hudson's hit prevented UNA from being no-hit for the first time since 1975, more than 2,200 games.

Delaite (2-1) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out five.

The series with Liberty continues with a 3 p.m. game on Saturday and a noon contest on Sunday.
