LIBERTY TOPS UNA WOMEN 5-2 IN ASUN OPENER

FLORENCE – After winning the doubles point, Liberty was able to produce four straight wins in singles play en route to a 5-2 victory over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team Friday at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts. With the loss, UNA opens ASUN Conference play with an 0-1 record and falls to 4-9 overall.
 
The Flames (11-3 overall, 1-0 ASUN) grabbed the early lead with victories at the top two doubles spots. No. 3 doubles was not finished. Singles wins at No. 6, No. 4 and No. 3 then clinched the win for the visitors.
 
After Liberty extended the lead to 5-0 with a victory at No. 2 singles, UNA avoided the shutout with a pair of tiebreaker wins. Kalais Going split the first two sets before getting an 11-9 victory in the tiebreaker at the No. 5 spot. Payton Andrews then finished the scoring at the top position with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 win, including a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
The UNA women will host Bellarmine at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
