FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama and Southern Illinois battled for 110 minutes before settling for a scoreless tie at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
The Lions and Salukis 0-0 tie after two overtimes left both teams scoreless on the season and 0-1-1 overall.
Southern Illinois controlled play for most of the first half, out-shooting the Lions 6-0 over the first 45 minutes.
UNA held the advantage 8-5 in shots in the second half and Southern Illinois managed five total shots in the extra periods but none found the back of the net.
North Alabama goalkeeper
Payton Yates was outstanding through the match and finished with eight saves.
"The girls really worked hard on a very hot Sunday afternoon," said UNA Head Coach
Chris Walker. "
Morgan Ebert played really well for us and
Izzi Gurney made a big difference in midfield once she came in and she helped create a lot of the second half chances."
UNA travels to Clarksville, Tenn., next weekend to play matches against Miami University (Ohio) on Friday and Kansas State on Sunday.
