TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- In the University of North Alabama's first women's soccer match against a nationally ranked program, the Lions held their own for a half but eventually dropped a 3-0 decision to 18th ranked Alabama on a rain-soaked field.
With the loss, UNA falls to 3-2-3 overall, while Alabama improved to 6-1-1.
The start of the match was delayed for almost two hours due to inclement weather.
Alabama got its first goal in the 31st minute as Riley Mattingly Parker headed the ball in the goal off a corner kick by Mariana Annest.
The scored remained 1-0 until the 50:02 mark when the Alabama netted its second goal of the day, this time from Gessica Skorka.
The final goal came in the 78th minute from Reyna Reyes.
North Alabama was out-shot 29 to three by the Crimson Tide and UNA goalkeeper
Payton Yates recorded a season-high seven saves.
The Lions play at Eastern Kentucky on September 15.
