Lions tasked with two-game set in Jacksonville

North Alabama to take on North Florida and Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (October 11, 2023) – The University of North Alabama soccer team hits the road for a two-match set in Jacksonville, Fla. this week. The Lions match up with North Florida on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. before playing Jacksonville on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m.

UNF Series History: The two schools have met just two times in school history with the last meeting coming back in 2019. North Florida has won both meetings over the Lions, with the most recent win coming in 1-0 fashion in Jacksonville. This will be the first time that the two schools square off in over four years. 
 
Scouting the Ospreys: North Florida currently sits in eighth place in the ASUN with a 2-3-3 conference record. The Ospreys are coached by Eric Faulconer who is in his fifth season with the program. UNF has an overall record of 4-6-5 this season. 
 
Jacksonville Series History: North Alabama is 2-1-0 all time against Jacksonville with the last meeting coming on Oct. 22 last season. Jacksonville won the most recent meeting between the two schools 1-0 in Florence. UNA has a 1-0 record over the Dolphins in games played in Jacksonville with the lone meeting resulting in a 3-0 Lion victory on Oct. 13, 2019.
 
Scouting the Dolphins: Jacksonville enters their Thursday matchup against Central Arkansas with a 2-10-3 record (0-7-1 ASUN). The Dolphins are led by head coach John Constable who is in his fourth season with the women's soccer program. 
 
Bellarmine Recap: With just 1:49 remaining on the clock and the score tied at 1-1, UNA forward Goose Andrews buried the game winning goal in the top left corner of the net. Alice Bussey also netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season on the way to a 2-1 victory over Bellarmine in Florence. Andrews was honored along with four others during Sunday's Senior Day. This match served as UNA's regular season home finale.

ASUN Tournament Outlook: With a 3-3-2 record in Atlantic Sun Conference matches, the Lions currently sit tied for fifth place in the ASUN standings. The top eight schools will earn a bid to the 2023 ASUN Championship beginning on Oct. 26 and going through Nov. 5. The Lions have participated in the ASUN Tournament twice before, with a record of 2-2 in tournament matches.
 
On the Road Again: With just three games remaining in the 2023 regular season, North Alabama hits the road for a three-game road trip beginning with North Florida and Jacksonville this week. Regular season play concludes at Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark. on Oct. 21.
 
UNA Closing in on 250 Program Wins: With a 2-1 victory over Bellarmine on Sunday, the North Alabama soccer team earned win number 248 in program history. With three regular season games remaining in the 2023 season, UNA has an opportunity to reach 250 program wins in the team's 27th season.
 
Lions Nationally Ranked: UNA goalkeeper Adriana Wright is tied for fifth in all of Division I soccer with eight shutouts. The Alabama-Huntsville transfer also ranks first nationally in goalie minutes played (1440:00) and is 41st in goals against average (0.688). North Alabama senior Alice Bussey is also ranked ninth in the NCAA in game-winning goals with four.
