FLORENCE, Ala. -- The 19th ranked FGCU Eagles took a commanding lead early and went on to a 28-7 win over North Alabama at Mike Lane Field.
The Eagles scored six runs in the first inning, five in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth for a 19-0 lead.
UNA scored its first run in the fourth but FGCU answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 21-1.
North Alabama erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth but could get no closer as the Eagles added a run in the sixth and six more in the seventh.
The Eagles hit seven home runs in the game, while the Lions got homers from
Gehrig Frei,
Jackson Ferrigno and two from
Kyle Machado.
UNA drops to 5-15 overall and 0-4 in the ASUN Conference. FGCU is now 20-4 overall and 3-1 in the ASUN.
North Alabama starter
Justus Agosto (1-4) took the loss, allowing 11 runs on five hits over an inning and two-thirds.
The 28 runs scored by the Eagles were the most ever allowed by a UNA baseball team.
UNA and FGCU play again on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
