NOTES

ABOUT LAST GAME: The University of North Alabama soccer team could not get the ball to bounce their way as the Lions fell to Bellarmine 1-0 in their fourth home game of the season Thursday at the Florence Sportsplex. Despite the loss, the Lions recorded a season-high in shots with 17 and shots on goal with eight. Like the past two games, the first half was silent as UNA and Bellarmine both played stout defense with no score allowed. The Knights put up one shot in the first 45 minutes which led to a save by junior goalkeeper Allanah Blye

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams. The Lions are 0-1-2 in this matchup with the last two meetings ending in a tie. This marks back-to-back seasons that the Colonels travel to Florence. The past two meetings saw nearly similar offense with the same amount of shots in 2022 and a 10-9 edge for EKU in 2023.

SCOUTING THE COLONELS: The Colonels come to Florence with a 6-6-1 record and a 3-2 record in the conference to sit fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings. They have played five ASUN games so far with their two losses coming against Lipscomb (3-0) and Central Arkansas (1-0). This will be EKU's third ASUN road match so far with a 1-1 record for road conference play. In its conference win over Stetson, EKU posted or tied season team-highs in points, goals, assists, shots and shots on goal.

CONFERENCE CORNERS: The Lions are still amongst the top of the ASUN conference in corner kicks. Last season, UNA ended the year leading in corner kicks by a wide margin with 135. The next closest team was Lipscomb with 112. North Alabama is finding the corner still, securing third in the conference with 55 heading into Sunday.

LITTLE LIONS: The latest recruiting class is already paying dividends for Walker as several have already contributed in playing time. Freshmen such as midfielders Anna Fugarino, Gizelle El Assal and Emerson Nieroda have all made starts on the year and played in at least nine or more games. Others that have contributed to the season are forwards Abigail Witten and Ella Remy and defender Langley Wallace.

TICK TOCK: Head coach Chris Walker is on the way to eclipsing the century mark for his career in wins. Since he has been at UNA, he has accomplished a 97-90-23 overall record in his 12 years and is three wins shy of his 100th career win. He is 14 away from tying former Lion head coach Graham Winkworth's all-time record of 111 wins.

NEXT GAME: The Lions continue the home stretch in the ASUN with Jacksonville coming to the Florence Sportsplex on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
