LIONS BLAST UNC PEMBROKE 62-28

FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama scored on its first six consecutive offensive possessions as the Lions rolled to a 62-28 Homecoming win over UNC Pembroke at Braly Stadium.

The win was UNA's 11th straight Homecoming win and improved the 17th ranked Lions record to 5-1 overall. UNCP falls to 4-2.

UNA held the Braves on their opening possession and then covered 47 yards in just five plays to start the scoring fest. UNA led 48-14 at intermission and was just one point shy of the school record for points in a half. The 62 points by UNA marked just the seventh time in school history that the Lions had scored 60 or more points and it was the first time since 2009.

The Lions gained 505 total yards with 321 rushing and 184 passing. Starting quarterback Luke Wingo was 11-of-14 for 178 yards and four touchdowns in just a little more than a half. Diamond Simmons rushed for 117 yards on 12 carries and scored three times and Lamonte Thompson rushed for 89 yards on 16 carries and scored twice on two pass receptions for 14 yards. UNA's Levi Fell also recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown.

UNCP's Rontonio Stanley rushed for 148 yards and had two long scoring runs of 84 and 27 yards.

After Thompson pulled in a nine-yard TD pass from Wingo on UNA's opening possession, Wingo hit Dre Hall with a 36-yard TD pass to make it 14-0 at 8:47 of the first quarter. Stanley then broke an 84-yard run to get the Braves on the scoreboard and cut the lead to 14-7. Touchdown runs of 47 and three yards by Simmons pushed UNA's lead to 28-7 and the blocked punt TD made it 35-7 at 14:46 of the second quarter.

UNA's Ryan Harper caught a one-yard TD pass from Wingo to make it 42-7 and Simmons 31-yard TD run pushed it to 48-7 but Kevin Henke missed the PAT.

Stanley's 27-yard TD run made it 48-14 but Thompson caught a five-yard TD pass from Wingo to extend the lead to 55-14. Chris Phipps returned a UNA fumble 49-yards for a score to make it 55-21 but UNA's Markeldon Washington answered with a two-yard TD run to push it to 62-21. The final score came on a 25-yard pass from Patrick O'Brien to B.J. Bunn.
