UNA ADVANCES TO DII SEMIFINALS WITH 38-0 WIN

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama rolled into the semifinals of the 2016 NCAA Division II Football Playoffs with a 38-0 romp over North Greenville at Braly Stadium.
The Lions, making their 10th all-time trip to the semifinal round, will find out later today who they will play on December 10 and where.
UNA built a 24-0 lead in the first half and shutout the Crusaders over the final two periods for the 38-0 win. The Lions gained 401 yards of total offense to just 181 for North Greenville and held NGU scoreless for the first time since 2009. The UNA defense also forced five turnovers, picking off four passes and recovering one fumble.
North Alabama had previously defeated North Greenville 52-21 in Florence back on Oct. 22.
UNA's Jacob Tucker threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 70 yards and one TD. Dre Hall caught six passes for 84 yards and one touchdown and broke two UNA records in the process. He broke the Lions' record for career pass receptions (156) and the record for the most receiving yards in a season (1,020).
NGU quarterback Will Hunter was just 13-of-35 passing and was picked off four times. He had previously only been intercepted four times in 13 games this season.
After a defensive struggle for most of the first quarter, UNA took a 3-0 lead on a 29-yard Kevin Henke field goal with 1:39 left in the period.  The score came after a 35-yard punt return by Jaylan Jackson that gave the Lions the ball at the NGU 17.
The Lions dominated the second quarter with three touchdown drives to blow the game open.
Damon Cox scored at the 11:52 mark on a two-yard run and Henke's PAT made it 10-0. That score capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive.
UNA then added two more scores in the final two and a half minutes of the half. Jacob Tucker hit Julius Jones with a 15-yard TD pass at 2:28 of the second quarter to make it 17-0 and Tucker then found Dre Hall with an 18-yard touchdown pass with 33 seconds left in the half to extend the lead to 24-0. The final score was setup by an interception by Philbert Martial that he returned to the Crusaders 25-yard line.
North Alabama's two second half scores came on a four-yard run by Tucker with 12:40 left in the game and an 80-yard interception return by Khyle Jackson with 10:28 remaining. It was the longest interception return in UNA's 50-game playoff history.
