CBU HOLDS OFF UNA WOMEN 68-64

FLORENCE – Samantha Reeves scored a career-high 26 points to lead Christian Brothers to a 68-64 Gulf South Conference win over North Alabama Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference women's basketball action. The third straight home loss gives the Lions a 5-21 overall record with a 4-17 mark in GSC play.
 
After scoring just nine points in the first half, Reeves helped the Bucs overcome a UNA rally. CBU (11-14 overall, 9-12 GSC) led by as many as 12 points in the third quarter before the Lions began to cut into the deficit.
 
Trailing 48-36 with 2:44 remaining in the third, UNA closed the quarter on a 6-0 run. The run continued in the opening minutes of the fourth period. KeKe Gunter connected on a basket and free throw to complete a three-point play and give North Alabama a 52-50 lead at the 6:43 mark.
 
A basket by Reeves quickly tied the game, and a three-pointer by Rachel Lee gave CBU a 55-52 lead. Shunice Herron cut the lead to 55-54 with a layup on the ensuing possession but the Lions could never tie or take the lead.
 
Christian Brothers pushed the lead to eight in the final minute of play and the Lions ran out of time.
 
Herron led North Alabama with 17 points. Alexus Patterson and Janae Lyde scored 12 points each. Lyde, a senior playing in her final game at Flowers Hall, also added 11 assists and four rebounds on the day. Gunter finished with 10 points for the Lions.
 
UNA will close out the regular season Saturday at UAH. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Spragins Hall.
