FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama built a 24-10 halftime lead and held on for a 38-17 win over North Alabama at Braly Stadium, marking just the second win for the Tigers in Florence in 30 years.
West Alabama, now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference, broke out to a 10-0 lead before UNA tied the game in the second quarter. The Tigers then moved out to a 24-10 advantage at the half and the second half included a 51-minute lightning delay before UNA closed the gap to 24-17. West Alabama then added two more TDs for the 38-17 win.
North Alabama falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the GSC with the loss.
West Alabama's Harry Satterwhite threw for 181 yards and one touchdown and Lakendric Thomas rushed for 87 yards and three TDs. UNA's
Rico Bruton was just 10-of-30 passing for 186 yards and threw three interceptions. One pickoff was returned by the Tigers for a touchdown.
Bruton rushed for 61 yards to lead UNA's ground attack.
UNA out-gained UWA 355 yards to 336.
West Alabama took the opening kickoff and went 69 yards in 10 plays for a score. Corey Davis caught an 11-yard pass from Satterwhite and Colin Douglas added the PAT to make it 7-0 at 10:23 of the first quarter.
Douglas added a 35-yard field goal at 6:21 of the first quarter to make it 10-0.
A 49-yard pass from Bruton to
Dre Hall set up a 12-yard TD run by Hall to get UNA on the scoreboard at 3:32 of the first quarter. A 33-yard
Chandler Carrera field goal tied the game at 10-10 at 13:31 of the second quarter.

Less than three minutes into the second half, the game was stopped for a lightning delay. On the first play after the delay, Bruton hit
Austin Hicks with a 54-yard TD pass to makeit 24-17 at 12:07 of the third quarter.
Thomas added a 19-yard TD run at 9:38 of the third quarter and Tevin Madison returned an interception 64 yards for the final score with 13:24 left in the game.
North Alabama travels to West Georgia on September 30.
