UNA VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES EIGHT SIGNEES

FLORENCE – University of North Alabama head volleyball coach Bob White has announced the addition of true freshmen for the 2019 spring signing class. With UNA entering its second season as members of the ASUN conference at the NCAA Division I level, the incoming newcomers include one outside hitter, two middle blockers, two opposite hitters, two setters and a libero.

"Today we took eight steps forward in ultimately becoming a more immediately competitive member of the ASUN Conference," said White, who just completed his first season at the helm of the UNA program. "This class is an extremely balanced group of competitive players from championship high school and club programs."

The signees include four players from Alabama, which is the most in a signing class since the 1995 season. Newcomers include outside hitter Alyssa Dutton of Carbon Hill, middle hitters Maggie Sullivan of Tuscaloosa and Anna Katherine Griggs of Arab, opposite hitters Sarah Elizabeth Williams of Chesterfield, Mo. and Morgan Madasz of Saint Petersburg, Fla., setters Breylee Linder of Florence and Mariana Trujillo of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico and libero Eli Ford of Geneva, Ill.

White added that recruiting in-state was a point of emphasis this year. "With no Alabama players on the 2018 team and the knowledge that Alabama has a lot of high school talent, we really made an effort to go after in-state players and make sure UNA is getting a fair piece of the Alabama talent pie," he said. "Now, with four of the eight signed players from Alabama, it has enabled the program to reach the goal and hopefully enhance our fan base and awareness in not only the Florence area, but throughout the state."
