FLORENCE, Ala. -- More than 80 former University of North Alabama men's basketball players, coaches and support staff members attended a reunion at Flowers Hall Saturday as part of the Lions' double-header sweep of Alabama-Huntsville.
The group of former players included 95-year-old Russell Rowe, who played for the Lions beginning in 1941, as well as brothers Pat and Joel Brewer, who played from 1949-51. There were numerous members of the school's 1979 NCAA Division II National Championship team, as well as members of the 1991 National Championship team.
Included in the group were UNA Athletic Hall of Fame inductees John Bostick, Don Faint, Ricky Johnson, Gerald Lavender, Tommy Ledbetter, Stevie Martin, Louis Newsome, Albert Owens, Wimp Sanderson, Maurice Stafford, Buck Williams, Allen Williams, Coach Billy Gamble and Coach Gary Elliott.
