LIONS ROUT UC-IRVINE 88-60

DENVER, Colo. – The North Alabama women's basketball team used a fast start to take control before cruising to an 88-60 victory over UC-Irvine Saturday at the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic in Denver. Five players reached double figures in scoring as the Lions finished the event with a perfect 2-0 record, improving to 5-2 overall in the process.

After a three-point basket gave UC-Irvine a brief 3-2 lead in the opening minutes, the Anteaters missed their next seven shots from the floor and had five turnovers during a 6:08 stretch. The Lions seized momentum with a 21-1 run with six different players scoring.

Ansley Eubank had six points in the early run. Freshman Jaida Bond then connected on a three-pointer before adding a layup after grabbing a defensive rebound to give UNA a 23-4 lead with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter. The Lions led by as many as 21 points in the opening frame and took a 27-9 lead into the second quarter.

The lead reached 30 in the second period. A free throw by Eubank put UNA ahead 45-15 with 1:37 to play. UCI added a foul shot of its own to make the score 45-16 at the break.

The Anteaters never threatened over the final two quarters. UNA led 69-36 at the end of the third period and led by as many as 40 early in the fourth when a basket by Brittany Panetti made the score 77-37 at the 8:27 mark.

Panetti led all scorers with 20 points. Eubank and Ivy Wallen added 13 points each while Bond and Olivia Noah each scored 10 points on the day. Wallen also had 10 assists to reach double figures in the category for the fourth time this year.
