UNA MEN SWEEP MVSU FOR FIRST DIVISION I VICTORY

MONTGOMERY – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team was dominant from start to finish during a 4-0 win over Mississippi Valley State Sunday at Montgomery's Lagoon Park. The victory represents the first of the season for the Lions (1-9) and the first as a Division I program.
 
UNA came up short in only one game the entire match. The Lions jumped out to a quick lead with identical 6-0 victories at the top two doubles positions before completing the doubles sweep with a 5-1 win at No. 3.
 
North Alabama swept through singles play to clinch the win. Gustavo Girao increased the lead by winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Jason Pimenta made it 3-0 with another 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top spot.
 
Cade Reasons clinched the match for the Lions with the identical 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 4 singles.
 
"It was good to get that first win," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "These guys have really been working hard."
 
UNA will host Alabama A&M on Tuesday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
