FIVE LIONS NAMED TO GSC VOLLEYBALL TEAM OF THE DECADE

BIRMINGHAM – The University of North Alabama had five former players listed on the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Team of the Decade. Three players received first-team honors while two were among the second-team honors on the list that included the top student-athletes in the sport from 2010-19.
 
UNA members on the first team included a trio of outside hitters, including Lexie Bradley, Natasha Fomina and Natalie Marsh. Libero Ashtyn Kapovich and middle hitter Jessica Austin rounded out the second-team selections for the Lions.

North Alabama volleyball teams played eight seasons in the Gulf South Conference during the last decade, posting 167 victories that included six 20-win seasons. The Lions recorded back-to-back GSC championships in the 2015 and 2016 campaigns.
 
Bradley, a four-year letterman, finished her career seventh all-time at UNA with 1,416 kills. She capped her career with a rare double All-America honor, earning first team All-America honors by the AVAC and second team Academic All-America by CoSIDA. Following her senior season in 2017, she was Named GSC Player of the Year and was also a GSC All-Academic and Top 10 pick. The Florence native also received an All-America honorable mention as a junior, along with a first team all-region and first team All-GSC selections as UNA won its second straight conference title. She also earned second team All-GSC honors in 2015 during UNA's title run and was named to the GSC all-tournament teams in 2014 and 2016.
 
Fomina lettered four seasons for the Lions from 2013-16. She ranks fifth all-time at UNA with 1,547 career kills. She received 2016 Player of the Year awards for the GSC and the South Region and later received the GSC Commissioner's Trophy. The Broomfield, Colo., native was a two-time first team All-GSC and All-South Region by AVCA and D2CCA. She also earned back-to-back All-America nods, receiving second team honors by D2CCA and the AVCA as a junior and a senior. In 2016 she added a second team Academic All-America nod after leading the league in kills (3.91) and also earning GSC All-Academic and Academic All-District honors.
 
Marsh was a two-year letterman and received All-GSC, All-South Region and All-America honors both seasons during the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. She was first team All-GSC in 2010 after averaging 2.59 kills per set with 350 digs and 10 double-doubles. The Cincinnati, Ohio native became UNA's 13th All-American after earning an AVCA second-team nod. Was also a first team All-South Region by AVCA and Daktronics and received South Region all-tournament honors. Marsh also led the GSC in 2011, finishing the season with 515 kills and 338 digs for a 2.58 digs-per-set average. She added 112 total blocks (0.85 per set), 23 assists and 39 service aces. For her career, she reached double figures in kills 32 times, including six matches with at least 20 kills. She also had 19 double-doubles.
 
Kapovich was a four-year letterman and two-time AVCA All-America honorable mention selection. She totaled 2,216 career digs, representing the second-highest total in school history. The Lansing, Ill., native holds school career records for 4.56 digs per set and 122 matches with double-digit dig totals. She is a three-time All-GSC pick, two-time all-region selection and was named the 2014 GSC Freshman of the Year after leading the league with 548 digs and a 4.57 per-set average.
 
Austin also lettered four years, finishing her career 10th on UNA's all-time list with 1,161 kills. She earned back-to-back GSC all-tournament honors in 14-15, including a Most Outstanding Player honor as the Lions won the title in 2015. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native was also a two-time All-South Region pick in 2015 and 2017 and became UNA's 16th All-American as a senior with a third-team honor by the AVCA. She also had two all-region selections and a first team All-GSC honor that season.
