UNA WOMEN TOP GEORGIA STATE 91-90 IN OVERTIME

FLORENCE – Macey Lee connected on a free throw with less than a second remaining in overtime and the University of North Alabama women's basketball team recorded a 91-90 victory over Georgia State Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The win evens the Lions' record at 2-2 on the year.
 
Georgia State had possession with the score tied in the closing seconds and held for the final shot. Lee, however, grabbed a defensive rebound off a miss with just over a second to play. She was fouled on the play and went to the line with .7 seconds on the clock. The sophomore from Jackson, Tenn., calmly sake the first foul shot to give UNA the lead.
 
After an intentional miss on the second free throw, the Panthers secured the rebound and called timeout with .2 seconds remaining. A steal by Jade Moore on the ensuing inbounds pass then sealed the win for North Alabama.
 
UNA led by as many as 10 in the second half and held a five-point advantage midway through the overtime period. Georgia State, however, battled back each time.
 
After the Lions took a 44-41 lead into the half, the visitors rallied to take their first lead of the game late in the third quarter. Two free throws gave the Panthers a 58-54 lead with 1:27 remaining in the period. UNA, however, tied the game with baskets by Lee and Patrycia Jaworska to make the score 58-58 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Early in the fourth, Moore connect on three straight three-point baskets to push the lead to 69-61. After Georgia State cut the deficit to three, a 7-0 run by the Lions extended the lead to double digits. Two free throws by Lee made the score 76-66 with 4:35 remaining.
 
UNA did not connect from the floor again until the final minute as the Panthers closed the gap. After a layup by Jaworska with 29 seconds to play put the Lions ahead 83-80, Georgia State's Taylor Henderson connected from three-point range to send the game into overtime.
 
UNA never trailed in the extra period. A three-pointer by Alexis Callins started a 7-2 run. GSU responded with five straight points to tie the game and set up the winning sequence.
 
North Alabama had six players reach double figures. Lee finished with 21 points to tie a career-high. She also added 14 rebounds to round out the double-double performance. Moore's 18 points was also a career-high after going 6-of-13 from long range.
 
Julia Strachan added 17 points while Jaworska turned in 15 points on the day. Callins and Hina Suzuki rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 10 points each. Elexus Bell led Georgia State (2-3) with a game-high 24 points.
 
UNA will host Tennessee State on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
