PURDUE TAKES DOWN NORTH ALABAMA WOMEN

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind., – Purdue used a big third quarter to take control en route to an 86-53 home win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team on Tuesday. With the loss, UNA falls to 5-6 on the season.
 
After closing the half on a 12-1 run to take a 27-26 lead into the half, Purdue outscored UNA 27-13 in the third quarter and the Lions were unable to keep pace. The Boilermakers led 64-39 heading into the final period and extended the lead over the final 10 minutes.
 
For the game, Purdue shot 55 percent from the floor and did most of its damage in the paint, outscoring the Lions 52-24. Both teams connected on eight three-point attempts with UNA taking 10 more shots from long range.
 
Jade Moore led UNA, reaching 18 points for the third time this season to tie a career high. Tiahna Sears also came off the bench to score a career-high eight points for the Lions.
 
UNA trailed by as many as 10 points early in the game before rallying to tie the score midway through the second quarter. Three straight baskets by Sears knotted the game at 25 with 3:41 remaining in the half. The Lions, however, would not connect from the floor again as the home team answered with a 12-1 run.
 
For the game, Purdue also held a commanding 47-28 rebounding advantage and converted 13 North Alabama turnovers into 21 points.
 
UNA will next travel to Philadelphia for two games at the Hawk Classic. The Lions will take on host Saint Joseph at 11 a.m. (CST) on Dec. 28 at Hagan Arena. UNA will play either Harvard or Norfolk State the following day at the same time.
