MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO NO. 27 MEMPHIS

FLORENCE – After winning the doubles point, Memphis won all six matches in singles play to score a 7-0 win over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team Tuesday at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts. The loss leaves UNA with a 4-12 record as the Lions prepare to return to ASUN Conference play this weekend with a home match against Lipscomb.
 
On Tuesday, Memphis took the early lead with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, followed by a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. No. 1 doubles was left unfinished.
 
In singles play, straight-sets wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 clinched the match for the Tigers. Memphis then finished the match with victories at the remaining singles positions, including a 7-6, 6-3 win at the top spot. Carlos Matarredona came up short in the tiebreaker of the opening set.
 
The home match against Lipscomb on Saturday at 2 p.m. will close out the 2021 regular season. The two teams will then meet again in the first round of the ASUN Tournament the following Saturday in Nashville.
