UNA MEN HAVE STRAONG SHOWING AT SAMFORD INVITATIONAL

BIRMINGHAM – Lachlan Brain went undefeated in singles and doubles play to lead the University of North Alabama men's tennis team to a strong showing at the Samford Invitational. The freshman from Adelaide, Australia went 3-0 in singles play against UAB, Alabama State and the host Bulldogs. He also paired with teammate Chris Zhang to win all three doubles matches against the same three schools.
 
UNA opened the event by taking on UAB in singles play and Alabama State in doubles play on the first day. The Lions went 4-2 against the Blazers with Brain and Zhang each notching straight-sets victories. Nazar Fedoryshyn also posted a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 win while Carlos Matarredona rallied for a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4 victory.
 
Brain and Zhang's 6-3 win represented the only victory over Alabama State in doubles play.
 
On the second day, UNA split its singles matches against Samford and took two of three doubles matches against UAB. Fedoryshyn and Jamie Bixby each recorded straight sets victories while Brain picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 singles win.
 
In doubles play, Bixby and Matarredona won 6-3 while Zhang and Brian won 7-5 against the Blazers.
 
UNA and Alabama State spit its six singles matches on the third day. The Lions, however, closed doubles play strong by two of the three matches against Samford.
 
Brain and Fedoryshyn each won in straight sets while Matarredona overcame a 1-6 loss in the opening set to post 6-3 and 6-4 wins to take the match. Fedoryshyn and Guiherme's 6-1 win, followed by Zhang and Brian's 6-4 victory wrapped up the scoring in dobules play.
