BALANCED ATTACK HELPS LIONS RALLY PAST ARKANSAS STATE 82-68

FLORENCE – Emma Kate Tittle led five players in double figures as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team picked up an 82-68 win over Arkansas State Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The second straight win gives UNA a 5-3 record on the season.

After getting outscored in each of the first two quarters, the Lions dominated the third and fourth periods to rally for the win. ASU led 40-34 at the half, but shot 31 percent after the break. The script was flipped for the Lions, who connected on just 12 shots from the floor in the first half and did not hit from three-point range.

In the second half, UNA shot 66.7 percent, including eight three-pointers.

The Red Wolves opened the third quarter with two quick baskets to grab a 10-point lead. UNA responded with a 16-4 run to take its first lead since early in the contest. Tittle scored seven points during the run and Jade Moore hit a three-pointer from the right wing to give the Lions a 50-48 lead with 4:11 remaining in third quarter.

Arkansas State tied the game with a basket on the ensuing possession and held a 55-52 lead at the 1:25 mark. UNA answered with back-to-back treys by Hina Suzuki to take a three-point lead into the final period.

North Alabama never trailed in the fourth quarter. After the Red Wolves tied the game at 60-60 early in the period, Tittle had a layup and two three-pointers in a 14-4 run. A basket in the paint by Skyler Gill made the score 74-64 with 3:02 remaining.

ASU got within six, but Gill answered with a three-point play before adding another jumper in the final minute to put the game out of reach.

Suzuki, who entered the game leading the ASUN in assists per-game, just missed a double-double with 19 points and nine assists. Moore reached her nation-leading average of four three-pointers per-game by going 4-for-9 from long range with 13 points.

Gill picked up her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She added five assists and six blocked shots to move into a tie for first in the ASUN with 27 on the year. She also passed 100 career blocked shots, totaling 103 in just 31 games.

Alyssa Clutter rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 10 points.

UNA will host Chattanooga on Dec. 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
