WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT TOP SEED JACKSONVILLE STATE

JACKSONVILLE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team closed the regular season on Saturday with a 68-49 loss at West Division winner Jacksonville State. With the loss, UNA falls to 13-15 on the year and will turn its attention to the post-season.

The Lions will be the No. 2 seed in the ASUN Conference Tournament and will host the winner of the Bellarmine-Stetson game in the quarter-final round on Sunday, March 6. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Flowers Hall.

On Saturday, the Lions trailed 28-24 at the half before the home team began to take control in the third quarter. UNA did not score for the first 4:09 of the second half while JSU used a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to double digits.

A three-point basket by Hina Suzuki cut the deficit to eight points midway through the period. After two more JSU baskets in the lane pushed the lead to 12, Alexis Callins connected from three-point range to make the score 39-30 with 4:10 remaining.

UNA missed its next four shots as the Gamecocks used an 8-0 spurt to go ahead 47-30 at the 1:51 mark. Back-to-back three-pointers by Callins and Macey Lee cut the defict to 11 and another trey by Lee early in the fourth quarter made the score 49-39. The Lions, however, would get no closer.

JSU began to slowly pull away, stretching the lead to as many as 19 points with 4:37 to play.

Lee led UNA with 14 points and six rebounds. Three players reached double figures for Jacksonville State (22-6 overall, 13-3 ASUN).
