Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

STRACHAN, GILL PACE UNA WOMEN TO 84-68 WIN OVER JACKSONVILLE

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team set single-game records at both ends of the floor Thursday during an 84-68 home win over Jacksonville. Julia Strachan connected on 11 three-point baskets and Skyler Gill had eight blocked shots as the Lions improved to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in ASUN Conference play.

Strachan, who tied a UNA Division I record with 35 points, led a second-quarter change as the Lions took control and maintained the lead the rest of the way.

The Lions held a seven-point lead early in the period before a 15-0 run put the home team ahead 42-20. Strachan hit back-to-back treys and Macey Lee added seven points during the run, including the three-pointer to cap it with 3:47 remaining in the half.

Another three-point basket by Strachan later put UNA up 48-24 at the 2:04 mark. A basket by the Dolphins down the stretch made the score 48-26 at the half.

Jacksonville made a run to start the third quarter, holding the Lions without a field goal for the first 4:54 of the period. After a three-pointer by the visitors cut the deficit to 50-40 midway through the quarter, a basket in the paint by Jade Moore pushed the lead to 12 points.

The Dolphins added a free throw before Strachan hit her eighth trey of the game to make the score 55-41 at the 4:14 mark of the third quarter. After baskets by Hina Suzuki and Gill pushed the lead to 18, Jacksonville connected in the paint. Strachan then hit from the right wing to give the Lions a 62-43 lead with 2:22 remaining.

UNA led 66-45 heading into the fourth quarter. The Dolphins would get no closer than 14 in the final period. Strachan's record-breaker came at the 4:54 mark. She passed Emma Wallen, who hit 10 treys on Jan. 2, 2018 at Mississippi College.

Lee finished with 15 points while Patrycja had 10 points for the Lions.

Gill also had 12 rebounds on the night. Her eight blocks passes her own single-game record set earlier this season against Jacksonville State. Gill now has 51 blocked shots on the year to tie a UNA single-season mark. The total matches Brittany Panetti's 51 blocks set during the 2018-19 campaign.

DeShari Graham and Taylor Hawks scored 13 points each to lead Jacksonville (12-7 overall, 5-3 ASUN).

UNA will host North Florida on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
