UNA MEN FALL 4-0 AT NO. 19 MISSISSIPPI STATE

STARKVILLE, Miss., - No. 19 Mississippi State improved to 5-1 on the season Thursday with a 4-0
Home win over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team. With the loss, UNA falls to 0-5 on the season.
 
The Bulldogs took the early lead in doubles play, getting a 6-0 win at No. 3 and a 6-1 win at No. 2. Play was stopped at No. 1 with the Lions' Fernando Herrera and Carlos Matarredona holding a 4-1 lead.
 
Mississippi State went on to clinch the match in singles play with victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 positions. At No. 3 singles, UNA's Chris Zhang lost the first set 6-2, but held a 4-3 lead in the second set when play was stopped.
 
At No. 6 singles, Jamie Bixby was edged out 7-6 in the opening set, including a 7-5 loss in the tiebreaker just before the match ended.
 
UNA will play a second consecutive ranked opponent on the road on Feb. 11 at No. 15 Ole Miss. Match times are set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss.
