FLORENCE – After winning the doubles points and holding leads in several matches, the University of North Alabama men's tennis team could not hold on for the victory Friday in a 5-2 home loss to FGCU. With the loss, UNA closes out the 2022 season with a 3-17 overall record, including a 1-7 mark in ASUN Conference play.

The Lions won the doubles point in dramatic fashion. After a 6-4 victory by Carlos Matarredona and Nazar Fedoryshyn at the top spot, FGCU evened the score with a win at No. 2 doubles. Chris Zhang and Sam Tolbert then gave UNA the early overall lead with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, FGCU won three straight before clinching the overall match at the No. 5 position with a 7-5, 6-2 victory. FGCU then rallied to win the remaining two matches that went to tiebreakers to close out the victory.
