FLORENCE -- The University of North Alabama football team went through an 80-play scrimmage at Braly Stadium Saturday morning to close out the Lions' pre-season camp.
UNA head coach
Chris Willis said he saw some good and some bad in the scrimmage, but it gave the coaches an opportunity to see a lot of players get some live practice reps.
"It was a pretty typical scrimmage," Willis said. "The defense started fast, then after a break, the offense came back with some good series. The defense finished with the upper-hand overall. The offense was able to move the ball but couldn't put it the end zone on most of their possessions. But that's understandable, with us using six different quarterbacks."
Willis praised kicker
Sam Contorno, who made a 51-yard field goal attempt into the wind. He said quarterback
Jaylen Gipson also did a good job of moving the offense, with the offensive line doing some good things up front. Willis said UNA's veteran receiver group also came up with some big catches. Defensive linemen
Kam'ron Green and Phillips Ossai also caught his eye."
Willis said the Lions' next practice session will begin preparation for UNA's season opener at Indiana State on September 1.
