DELAND, Fla. -- Holding a nine-point lead with 5:26 to play, North Alabama would not score another point but didn't need it as the Lions held off Stetson for a 60-57 ASUN Conference road win.
UNA led by as many as 15 points in the game before a Stetson rally, then
Hina Suzuki pushed it back to nine with a three-point basket with 5:26 left to make it 60-51. Stetson chipped away at the UNA lead and cut it to three points with 1:50 to play.
The Hatters had a final three-point attempt at the buzzer that was blocked by
Jade Moore, preserving the UNA win.
"You are always happy when you can get a hard fought ASUN road win," said UNA head coach
Missy Tiber. "We grew today with a lot of adversity during the game. Our young kids stepped up and made some big defensive plays when we needed them."
Jade Moore led the Lions with 14 points, while Suzuki added 11 and
Skyler Gill nine.
The Lions got 24 points from their bench.
UNA led 19-10 after one quarter of play, sparked by a pair of Gill three-point baskets. The Lions held a 35-27 lead at the half and 49-44 after three quarters. UNA's biggest lead was 15 points at 46-31.
The win improves UNA's overall record to 7-9, and the Lions are 2-3 in ASUN play. Stetson falls to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in the ASUN.
