FLORENCE -- Ala. -- Austin Peay outscored North Alabama 16-8 in the final period to break open a tight game and take a 61-52 ASUN Conference win over the Lions at CB&S Bank Arena.
The Governors led early, holding a 24-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter, and continued to lead 37-32 at the half. North Alabama tied the game at 44-44 late in the third quarter, but the Lions would hit just 25 percent of their shots in the final quarter.
The loss was UNA's third ASUN loss by less than 10 points.
UNA is now 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the ASUN Conference. Austin Peay is 11-6 and 6-1 in the ASUN.
Skyler Gill and
Hina Suzuki led UNA scorers with nine points each.
Alexis Callins and
Olivia Jones added seven points each.
The Lions were outrebounded 34-31 in the game and UNA lost 22 turnovers in the contest.
Both teams shot 40 percent from the floor for the game but UNA made just five of its 20 three-point attempts.
The UNA women play at Kennesaw State on Thursday, January 26.
