FLORENCE, Ala. – Hitting better than 70 percent of its shots from the floor through the first three periods, FGCU picked up an 86-58 ASUN Conference win over North Alabama at CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall.
Behind the hot shooting, FGCU got off to a quick start and held a 29-13 lead the end of the first quarter.
After a 6-0 run by UNA to start the second period, FGCU scored 11 straight to extend its lead. The Eagles led 53-27 at the half and 81-49 after three quarters.
Alexis Callins led UNA offensively with 18 points, including three three-point baskets.
Jade Moore and
Skyler Gill added 10 points each.
The Lions held their own in rebounding, with FGCU holding a narrow 32-31 advantage.
Cameron Jones led UNA with six and
Rhema Pegues had five.
UNA was held to just 35 percent shooting for the game, hitting 20 of its 57 shot attempts. The Lions were just 6-of-23 from three, while the Eagles made 15 of their 26 attempts from three.
With the loss, UNA is now 6-8 overall and 1-2 in ASUN Conference play. FGCU improved to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in the ASUN.
North Alabama plays on the road at FGCU on Thursday, January 12 at 6:00 p.m.
