FLORENCE, Ala. (October 25, 2023) – University of North Alabama cross country runners
Talon Pritchard and
Traci Pettus were honored by the Atlantic Sun Conference on Wednesday, earning the final ASUN Runner of the Week awards of the regular season.
Pritchard and Pettus represented the Lions at the Firehawk Invitational last Friday at McFarland Park.
Pritchard got things started on Friday morning in the men's 8K race, finishing with a time of 34:47.06 in his third race of the season. The senior trimmed six seconds off his previous race time at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville.
The women's 6K race took place shortly after, as Pettus ran a time of 25:02.34 to shave over a minute off her previous personal record. Her 18th place finish was the highest of her career and was the highest among all individuals not associated with a competing team.
The award marks the first career honor for both Pritchard and Pettus. UNA has now won six ASUN weekly honors this season for cross country, including Runner of the Week awards for
Fedrick Kipyego and
Gracie Mathews and Freshman of the Week honors for
Brent Lyons and
Camille Etheridge back in September.
This weekend, UNA will compete at the ASUN Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The women's race starts at 10:15 a.m. and the men's race begins at 11 a.m.
