FLORENCE, Ala. (November 17, 2023) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team will return to Florence to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at CB&S Bank Arena inside Flowers Hall on Saturday, Nov 18 at 5 p.m.
UNA returns home after a recent 83-72 road defeat to SEC opponent Missouri on Nov. 14. North Alabama looks to get back in the win column against a visitor from the Sun Belt Conference.
On Saturday prior to tipoff, UNA Athletics will honor legendary coach Wayne Byrd with a special pre-game ceremony. Coach Byrd and select players are invited and can contact Megan Dye at smlovelace@una.edu to request a spot on the pass list. Byrd was head coach for the Lions for 16 seasons from 1983-98. He had a record of 232-199 to become the winningest coach in UNA women's basketball history. He was inducted into the UNA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.

NOTES
SIEGEL STRIKES: The bright lights of Mizzou Arena did not faze freshman guard Chloe Siegel, who erupted for a team-high 15 points against the Tigers Tuesday night. The Tuscumbia native score all her points behind the arc, hitting five threes on 45 percent shooting and equalling the three-point total of Mizzou's entire team.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Senior guard Sara Wohlgemuth displayed senior leadership on the big stage, earning her first career double-double against Missouri. Wohlgemuth finished with an 11-point, 10-assist performance against the Tigers, leading all players in assists and setting a new career high.
ASSIST ME PLEASE: Wohlgemuth continues to rack up the assists early this season, leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in assists per game with 6.7 and helping UNA rank third in the ASUN in assists per game as a team (13.3). She is also registering the third-best assist/turnover ratio in the league with 2.5.
SCORER'S MENTALITY: The Lions continued to display a balanced scoring attack against Mizzou, finishing the game with five scorers in double figures. Siegel led the way with 15 points, followed by sophomore guard Alyssa Clutter (12), Wohlgemuth (11), freshman guard Veronaye Charlton (10) and senior guard Alexis Callins (10).
KNOCK THEM DOWN: Free throws continue to be a strength for the Lions, checking in with a 78.9 free throw percentage — good for second in the ASUN. UNA has shot over 80 percent from the line in two of three games and has finished with a higher free throw percentage than all three opponents so far this season.
MEETING HISTORY: North Alabama matches up against the Golden Eagles for the third time in program history, with the series tied 1-1. In the last meeting, Southern Miss took a five-point victory at home on Nov. 18, 2022 in an early non-conference matchup. UNA claimed the first victory in the series with a 69-65 overtime win in the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) on March 25, 2019.
