JONESBORO, Ark. (August 24, 2023) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team will officially open their 2023 season at the A-State invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. on Friday, August 25. 

Hosted by Arkansas State, the Lions will play in three matches over the course of two days, with the first two match ups coming on Friday against Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m. and Little Rock at 4 p.m. 

UNA will conclude the invitational with a match against Arkansas State on August 26 at 4 PM, which will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available for viewing each match through StatBroadcast.

NOTES

There's A First Time for Everything: This weekend will mark the first time that North Alabama will be competing in the A-State Invitational. In 2022, the Red Wolves hosted the Trojans in last year's rendition, resulting in a 3-2 win for the hosts.

Meeting History: North Alabama and Louisiana Tech will be meeting on the court for the first time in both programs' history. Both Little Rock and Arkansas State have played UNA once each, both resulting in defeats for the Lions. The Trojans defeated the Lions, 3-0, on August 24, 2018, while the Red Wolves beat UNA, 3-0, on August 30, 2019.

Scouting the Lady Techsters: Louisiana Tech opens their 2023 campaign at the A-State Invitational after completing an exhibition against Northwestern State in their home gym. For their 2022 season, they went 11-18 (4-10 Conference USA) and are coach by Amber McCray.

Scouting the Trojans: Little Rock will open their 2023 season with the first game of the invitational against Arkansas State at noon. The Trojans finished the 2022 season with an 7-24 (4-14 Ohio Valley Conference) record, and they are coached by Van Compton.

Scouting the Red Wolves: Arkansas State play hosts to the A-State Invitational and will open their regular season after completing their exhibition match against Ole Miss on August 19. In the 2022 season, the Red Wolves finished their season at 9-22 (2-14 Sun Belt) and are coached by Brian Gerwig.
