FLORENCE, Ala. (January 29, 2024) – University of North Alabama Men's Tennis suffered a 6-1 setback to the visiting UAB Blazers in its home opener in Florence, Ala. Monday afternoon.
The Blazers struck first by taking the doubles point with two straight wins. UAB would go on to take five singles matches against the Lions en route to the win.
North Alabama moves on in search of their first win of the season, while the Blazers pick up their first win of the season and sit at 1-2.
UAB's Ondrej Valek/Noah Malige and Carlos Gimenez Perez/Juan Pablo Valdez Guzon clinched the first point with wins over UNA's Birtan Duran/Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles/Lachlan Brain. The number two doubles court match was left unfinished.
Moving into the singles matches, the Blazers took five of the six courts with the exception of court five, which saw the Lions' Duran win a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Valdez Guzon of UAB.
The Lions will head to Louisiana Friday, Feb. 2 to compete in the Cajun Winter Classic. The two-day tournament will be hosted by University of Louisiana and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 3.
