PINE BLUFF, Ark. (November 30, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team travels to Arkansas on Sunday, Dec. 1 for a road contest against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions at 3 p.m.
UNA is back on the road to tip-off December, prepping for the first all-time meeting against the Golden Lions in Pine Bluff, Ark. The third road contest in four games, the Lions look to make it two wins in row after defeating Cumberland in CB&S Bank Arena last time out.

LAST TIME OUT: North Alabama won the second home game of the season with a dominant 87-48 victory over the Cumberland Phoenix this past Monday. The Nov. 25 matchup resulted in UNA's largest win of the young season, leading wire-to-wire to improve to 3-3. Junior India Howard recorded her second career double-double in the outing, as Howard, senior Charity Gallegos, junior Emma Kate Tittle and freshman Sofia Ceppellotti finished in double figures.
LIONS ON THE BOARD: North Alabama is in the top three of two statistical categories as a team, ranking among the best ASUN teams in free throws and three-point shooting. UNA is second in the conference with a 73.7 percent team free-throw percentage, while third in the ASUN with a 35.1 percent three-point percentage.
CHARITY MAKES A CASE: Senior guard Charity Gallegos is making a statement in her first year at UNA. Gallegos averages 11.3 points per game, leading the team while 19th in the ASUN. Gallegos has also been the primary playmaker for the Lions, averaging the eighth-most assists in the ASUN with 3.3 per game. The senior makes two threes per game, tied for ninth in the conference.
HOWARD HEROICS: Junior India Howard had one the best games of her UNA career against Cumberland, registering a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double against the Phoenix. The forward also a career-high five assists, two steals and one block to complete an all-around game. She continues to be a defensive presence, as she is tied for sixth in the ASUN in blocks with five in six games.
KATIE'S KEEN ON DEFENSE: Another conference leader in the ASUN, sophomore Katie Criswell has provided rim protection from the guard position. She is tied for eighth in blocked shots with four in six games.
SUPER CAM: Junior Cameron Jones is having a career year in her third season, with the Broadview Heights, Ohio native averaging a career-high 9.2 points per game. She is also making her mark as one of the best free-throw shooters in the ASUN, ranking third at 90.9 percent.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: The Lions continued its early-season advantage in rebounding with a another standout outing against Cumberland. UNA imposed its will on the boards, grabbing 58 rebounds and finishing four shy of tying the Division I single-game school record of 62 rebounds. It marked the highest rebounding outing since 2022. North Alabama also held a significant advantage in the assist category with 23, compared to just two assists for Cumberland. UNA now has 87 assists on the season, 21 more than opponents' 66 assists.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF: The Golden Lions enter the contest 2-5 overall on the season, looking to break a two-game skid in the matchup against UNA. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is currently sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings and were picked 11th in the SWAC Preseason Poll. The Golden Lions are one of the best teams in the SWAC in defense, leading the league in blocked shots (4.14 per game) while third in the conference in opponent scoring (67.1 PPG) and opponent field-goal percentage (.401). The leading scorer for Arkansas-Pine Bluff is freshman Janiyah Tucker, who leads the team with 13 points a game. Leading the Golden Lions is first-year head coach Erica Leak.
PRESEASON RANKS: The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its 2024 preseason information for women's basketball on Oct. 10, with North Alabama voted seventh in the media poll and ninth in the coaches' poll.
