FLORENCE, Ala. (December 20, 2024) – The University of North Alabama Department of Athletics announced a record-breaking academic semester in Fall 2024, as 341 student-athletes combined for a 3.26 department-wide grade-point average.
The 3.26 GPA marks the highest fall semester GPA on record for UNA.
"Academic excellence is at the forefront of our competitive goals, and UNA student-athletes continue to elevate that standard each year through record-setting academic achievement," said UNA Director of Athletics, Dr. Josh Looney. "UNA is aligned with strong faculty, coaches and academic leaders who motivate student-athletes to elevate and achieve their goals in the classroom, in competition and in the community. There is no better way to Raise The ROAR!"
Of 341 student-athletes, 245 posted a 3.0 GPA or higher. This includes all 11 of UNA's fall graduates. Additionally, 50 student-athletes finished the semester with a 4.0 GPA.
UNA Athletics has finished with a combined 3.2 GPA or higher in nine of the last 10 semesters. This fall also marks the 18th consecutive semester above a 3.0 GPA.
The UNA beach volleyball program led all sports with a 3.77 GPA during the fall semester. Six other programs finished above a 3.5 GPA as a unit, including women's cross country (3.64), men's golf (3.63), women's soccer (3.63), softball (3.58), women's basketball (3.58) and women's golf (3.57).
"Breaking the highest fall semester GPA on record is a testament to our student-athletes and their commitment to excellence in the classroom," said Sherry Kennemer, Senior Asssociate Athletic Director for Student Success. "It also highlights the strong partnership between athletics and the university community. This achievement underscores the dedication and hard work of our student-athletes, who continually strive for success both on and off the field. Their academic accomplishments are a reflection of the values of discipline, perseverance and teamwork that are cultivated throughout their entire university experience."
