FLORENCE, Ala. (February 17, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team extended its win streak Saturday afternoon, defeating the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 5-2 from the UNA Tennis Complex in Florence.
North Alabama claimed its fourth-straight win this season, moving to 4-3 on the year, while North Dakota's record moved to 2-8.
The Lions opened up the dual with two wins from the top two flights by 6-2 finals to clinch the first point. Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles defeated the UND team of Ange-Kevin Koua/Victor Moreno Lozano for the first win before UNA's Nazar Fedoryshyn and Lachlan Brain clinched the point.
After doubles, the Lions won the first four singles matches to clinch the fourth UNA win this season. Brain gained the first singles win with a straight 6-0, 6-0 win over Koaua of North Dakota from the top flight. Orgiles followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jerall Yasin from the fourth flight.
Fedoryshyn earned his second victory of the dual with 6-1, 6-3 singles win over Leandro Zgraggen, and sophomore Federico Scotuzzi wrapped up the final win for UNA by beating Terry, 6-2, 6-3. The Fighting Hawks would claim the second and sixth flights in the 5-2 win for North Alabama.
The dual also saw the season debut of freshman Whitman Davis, competing in his first match at UNA from the third doubles and sixth singles flight.
The Lions return to the court for their second home dual of the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 17, as UNA meets the Troy Trojans at noon at the UNA Tennis Complex in Florence, Ala.
