NOTES
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama will face the Eagles sporting a 10-13 overall record and a 6-4 record in ASUN play to sit in a four-way tie for fourth in the conference standings. North Alabama ranks third in the ASUN with 70.7 points per game. UNA also ranks among the top three ASUN teams in the following categories: free throw percentage (72.2 percent/first), team assists (14.83 per game/first), three-point percentage (32.6 percent/first), three pointers per game (8.3 per game/second) and bench points per game (21.5/third).
SCOUTING THE EAGLES: FGCU enters the game with a 20-4 overall record and a perfect 10-0 record in the ASUN, riding a 13-game win streak. The Eagles are in first place in the conference standings with the top scoring offense (74.6 PPG) and scoring defense (56.7 PPG) in the ASUN. Fifth-year player Uju Ezeudu leads the Eagles in scoring with 13.4 PPG, placing her seventh on the league leaderboard. The head coach for FGCU is Karl Smesko, who has been with FGCU for over two decades.
SERIES HISTORY: FGCU leads the all-time series with an 11-1 record. UNA will look to get its second win of the series against the Eagles, with the only win coming on Feb. 9, 2020 when the Lions upset the No. 23 Eagles by a 61-55 final on the road. This was UNA's first-ever win over a ranked opponent in the Division I era.
1K MAGIC: Senior
Alexis Callins became the first player to score 1,000 career points all in the Division I era against Kennesaw State. A four-year mainstay, she also became the 18th player in all of UNA Women's Basketball history to achieve this milestone. The all-time leader in scoring at UNA is Ivy Wallen, who scored 1,762 points over four seasons — two at the Division II level and two at the Division I level. Callins ranks 13th all-time at UNA with 1,058 points.
TWEEDY'S TRIFECTA: Veronaye Charlton completed back-to-back ASUN Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 5 and has won three this season. In two wins against North Florida and Jacksonville last week, Charlton started both games and averaged 17 points per game on 48 percent shooting while going 4-7 from behind the arc. Charlton also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, tallying three steals and a block over the week. She now ties Sakyia White for the second-most ASUN freshman weekly honors in a season at UNA behind only
Skyler Gill, who won it five times in 2021-22.
NO PRESSURE: Free throws may be free, but North Alabama has made teams pay from the charity stipe this season. The Lions lead the ASUN in free-throw percentage at 72.2 percent. UNA leads the conference by 1.4 percent.
CALLINS CAN SCORE (A LOT): Callins' 15 PPG ranks fourth in the ASUN and is on pace for a new Division I-era record at UNA for individual season scoring average. She has scored in double figures in all but four games this season.
GIVE HER THE GREEN LIGHT: Callins' three-point game is nationally ranked in the NCAA, with her three-pointers per game ranking eighth in the country. She also has the eighth-most three pointers in the country with 69 and needs 23 more threes to set the UNA Division I record for most threes in a season, previously set by Julia Strachan with 91 in 2021-22.
CHARLTON KEEPS IT COOL: Charlton continues to make an impact in her first season at UNA. Charlton brings energy whenever she touches the court, but her calling card is remaining cool, calm and collected from the charity stripe. She checks in at 82.9 percent from the line, second in the ASUN and ranking 86th nationally.
DROPPING DIMES: Senior guard
Sara Wohlgemuth is in the ASUN lead and ranks 58th nationally with 4.7 assists per game. Her 109 assists lead the ASUN with a 51st national ranking. She is also second in the ASUN with a 1.6 assist/turnover ratio.
MILESTONE WIN: With last Thursday's win over North Florida, UNA head coach
Missy Tiber won her 350th career game as a head coach. She has won 165 games over 11 seasons at UNA and 351 games in 24 seasons overall.
