Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. (April 14, 2024) – With the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament approaching, the University of North Alabama men's tennis team closed the regular season with a 5-2 home win over Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon from the UNA Tennis Complex.
With the win over the Knights, UNA closes the regular season with a 15-7 overall record and a 6-3 record in ASUN play. The Lions also finish with a 7-1 record at home this season. Two-straight doubles victories for UNA led to four singles wins, as North Alabama heads into this upcoming weekend's conference tournament eying a deep run.
Four Lions won on the day, with all four leaving with two victories in singles and doubles action. Sophomores
Lachlan Brain and
Federico Scotuzzi finished with two wins, along with freshmen
Izan Orgiles and
Alberto Altur. Brain and Orgiles teamed up to win their 10th doubles match of the year, while Scotuzzi and Altur finished the regular season with their second win as a pairing.
Altur and Scotuzzi won the first doubles matchup, opening with a 6-3 win over Kyle Tang and Xavier Ecarma from flight three. Brain and Orgiles had to win-by-two, but the pair prevailed over Louie Fletcher and Wynn Shioi from flight two. Junior

Birtan Duran's doubles match went unfinished from the top flight.
Brain won his 11th match from the top singles flight, earning the Lions first singles win of the dual. He opened with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jack Batchelor to give UNA a 2-0 early lead. The Knights gained their first win with a fifth-flight victory, but Orgiles restored the two-point advantage with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kyle Tang from flight two.
The clinching team point was won on court six, when Scotuzzi won his 10th match of the season in a 6-3, 6-4 win over Xavier Ecarma. Altur added the fifth and final UNA point in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Vineet Ramesh from flight four.
North Alabama's Duran and Bellarmine's Matthew Nice battled to three sets from flight three, but Duran would fall to Nice, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Junior
Nazar Fedoryshyn also fell in singles to Bellarmine's Fletcher in a 6-1, 6-4 result.
North Alabama's next outing comes in the ASUN Championship Tournament on April 19-21 in Fort Myers, Fla. The No. 4 Lions are set for a first-round matchup against No. 5 Lipscomb in the FGCU Tennis Complex at 4 p.m. CT.
