ATLANTA (July 12, 2024) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced the 2024-25 men's and women's basketball schedules for the league on Friday, as the University of North Alabama men's team begins its 18-game conference slate at home on January 2, 2025.
The new conference schedule format includes two games a week over a nine-week period, starting the first week of January and ending the last week of February. The new format also adds two conference games, as UNA played 16 ASUN games last season and will now play 18 games this upcoming season.
"The schedule is going to be demanding, and it will test us early," said UNA head men's basketball coach Tony Pujol, who enters his seventh season at the helm. "This league is deep, and we are looking forward to the challenge."
The Lions waste no time tipping off the new year, as North Alabama opens the ASUN conference slate with two home games on Thursday, Jan. 2 against Bellarmine and Saturday, Jan. 4 against EKU. Under the new schedule format, UNA will only face these teams one time in the regular season.
Weeks 2 and 3 of the conference schedule have the Lions going to Florida, starting Thursday, Jan. 9 at FGCU and Saturday, Jan. 11 at defending ASUN champion Stetson. The next week, UNA heads to league headquarters for matchups at Jacksonville on Thursday, Jan. 16 and North Florida on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The following week, a pair of Tri-Star state foes trek down to Alabama as the Lions welcome Lipscomb to CB&S Bank Arena on Thursday, Jan. 23 and Austin Peay on Saturday, Jan. 25. The month of January closes for UNA on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with a trip to Queens in Charlotte, N.C.
The second half of the league schedule spans the entire month of February, beginning Saturday, Feb. 1 against Central Arkansas inside CB&S Bank Arena. The next week puts the Lions on the road, including a return trip to Austin Peay on Wednesday, Feb. 5. On Saturday, Feb. 8, the Lions will reignite a rivalry with new ASUN member West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga.
The Lions kick off a three-game home stand on Thursday, Feb. 13 against North Florida before welcoming Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 15. The league schedule shifts to Tuesday and Thursday in Week 8, as the Lions welcome West Georgia to close the home stand on Feb. 18.
On Thursday, Feb. 18, UNA will travel to Nashville to battle Lipscomb. The last time North Alabama battled inside Allen Arena, former Lion standout KJ Johnson sank a buzzer-beating game-winner to advance UNA to the ASUN Semifinal Round and make national headlines as ESPN's top play.
The final week of the regular season sees North Alabama travel to Central Arkansas on Monday, Feb. 24 and end the season at home against Queens on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The 2025 ASUN Championship Tournament will run from March 2-9 and will be hosted on campus sites by the higher seeds.
