FLORENCE, Ala. (July 19, 2024) – University of North Alabama head volleyball coach Tristan Johnson announced the 2024 volleyball schedule Friday, which includes signed contracts for 28 matches with 11 at home inside CB&S Bank Arena.
"I am so excited about our schedule for this upcoming season," said UNA head coach Tristan Johnson. "As we look to continue building upon the success of last season, we are taking a clear step forward in our non-conference slate. With three SEC schools and a number of teams that played in the postseason last year, we will be better prepared for a tough ASUN Conference schedule. This is a special time to be a part of the UNA Volleyball family whether as a fan, player or coach. We can't wait to get going this fall and continue to push for a championship."
The season opens with an exhibition at Ole Miss set for Saturday, August 24, while the regular season begins at Auburn with the War Eagle Invitational on Aug. 30-31 against Auburn, Wofford and Georgia Southern.
The Lions will also play a three-match round robin tournament at UT Martin to open the month of September. After that, UNA will make its home debut at the UNA Volleyball Classic set for Sept. 13-14 inside CB&S Bank Arena. The Lions will host Arkansas State and in-state rivals UAB and Jacksonville State.
On Sept. 17, the Lions have a marquee match on the road at Alabama set for 6 p.m. inside Foster Auditorium. Prior to becoming the head coach at UNA, Johnson made stops as an assistant with both Alabama and Arkansas State.
The current non-conference slate concludes at Central Arkansas with matches against Jackson State and Little Rock. The Lions will also open the Atlantic Sun Conference portion of the schedule at the Central Arkansas Invitational, facing the Bears on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. The Lions will also travel to Jacksonville the following week on Sept. 28.
The Lions will host eight conference matches at CB&S Bank Arena, including a pair against EKU and Bellarmine set for Friday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 6.
Following four road matches in mid-October, UNA returns home for a six-game home stand that runs from Oct. 25 to Nov. 10, starting with a renewed rivalry against West Georgia. The Lions will also host Queens, Central Arkansas, North Florida, Austin Peay and Lipscomb in that span.
The regular season concludes Nov. 15-16 with return trips to Bellarmine and EKU.
The 2024 Atlantic Sun Championship is scheduled for Nov. 21-23 in Fort Myers, Fla.
