FLORENCE, Ala. (September 25, 2024) – Once a month, the University of North Alabama Department of Athletics features local student-athletes with ties to the Shoals area with the monthly "Homegrown Series" presented by First Southern Bank.
This edition features true freshman cross country runner
Mary Anna Trimble.
The freshman was a standout runner across the river at Muscle Shoals High School. Trimble was named the TimesDaily's All-Area Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year in both 2022 and 2023.
In her senior season, she recorded eight top-10 finishes, including a third place finish at sectionals. Trimble also set a personal record of 19:15 at the esteemed Jesse Owens Invitational.
Trimble is a legacy Lion, as both of her parents are UNA graduates.
Trimble's father is former All-Gulf South Conference runner Scott Trimble, who was a standout athlete in the 1980s and later went on to coach the program for 14 seasons. He still owns the 12th fastest 10K time in school history — a 33:33 at the 1985 GSC Championship. Her mother, Leigh Anna, played basketball for the Lions.
