NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 25, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team is back in action for the 2025 season, traveling to Nashville to face the Belmont Bruins this Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Lions are set for their second dual of the season, taking on former Atlantic Sun Conference members in non-conference action. North Alabama opened the season on Jan. 17 with a 6-1 loss to SEC opponent Auburn.
The Belmont duel concludes the January slate for UNA. The match will take place at the Ensworth Tennis Center with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats will be also be provided for the match courtesy of Statbroadcast.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: In North Alabama's season debut, the Lions faced the challenge of SEC competition against the Auburn Tigers. Sophomore Izan Orgiles and freshman Samu Dominguez defeated Auburn's Hamza Nasridinov and Thomas Kennedy, 6-3, for the pairs first doubles win of the new season. Sophomore Alberto Altur also began the year with the first singles win, coming back from a set down to defeat Auburn's Mats Bredschneijder, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
SCOUTING BELMONT: The Bruins have their home debut against Lions, looking to gain their first win of the season after falling to No. 13 Tennessee last time out. Belmont enters the season following a 11-10 record in Spring 2024, capping the year as regular-season champions in the Horizon League and appearing in the championship dual. Belmont was voted with Cleveland State as favorites to win the league this season. The Bruins are led by Jeff Cero.
SERIES HISTORY: The 14th all-time meeting between the programs, North Alabama leads the series, 9-4. The Lions and Bruins play for the first time since the 2005 season, with UNA's last win coming in the 1994 season. Belmont has won the previous three duals in 2001, 2004 and 2005.
FALL 2024 RECAP: North Alabama captured 92 wins in the autumn campaign, competing in five events in preparation of the 2025 season. The month of September saw the Lions win 50 combined matches, taking home 20 wins at the Samford Invitational and 30 wins at the EKU Invite. North Alabama followed with the ITA Regionals and CCB Invitational in October, capturing 13 wins from the ITA tournament and 20 wins from the invite in Birmingham. The Lions had two bracket champions from CCB Invitational in doubles play with senior Nazar Fedoryshyn, junior Lachlan Brain, sophomore Alberto Altur and freshman Samu Dominguez leaving as champions. The UTR Sports College Circuit concluded the fall season, ending with nine UNA wins and Brain securing the singles men's bracket championship.
