Women’s Basketball falls in 50-48 heartbreaker to Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Lions drop first home contest off Lady Lions’ buzzer-beating three pointer

FLORENCE, Ala. (December 1, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team were defeated at home for the first time this season in a 50-48 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday in CB&S Bank Arena.

North Alabama (4-3) fell in the narrow defeat thanks to a last-second three-point shot as time expired from the Lady Lions' Indiya Bowen. Bowen's shot clinched Arkansas-Pine Bluff's second win of the season, moving the Lady Lions to 2-5 on the season. Arkansas-Pine Bluff additionally claims its first-ever series win in the second all-time meeting.

Senior Alyssa Clutter led the Lions in scoring with a season-high 11 points. Senior India Howard totaled eight points to finish second, and senior Jazzy Klinge and freshman Gabby Jackson tied for third with six points.

Howard additionally had a near double-double effort with team-high nine rebounds. Junior Katie Criswell led with three assists, also leading with two steals alongside senior Alexsandra Alvarado. Klinge and Howard totaled a block to round out UNA's leaders.

The battle in "The Bank" was a defensive struggle for both teams, starting the bout with a low-scoring first quarter. Despite the first-period affair, North Alabama jumped out to an early lead with the Lions claiming the first quarter, 15-10.

Six UNA players scored in the opening period, highlighted by freshman Greta Ramon's four points. Even through over seven minutes of play, an 8-3 Lions' run ended the first with Lions advantage.

The second quarter was the lowest scoring period for both teams, but North Alabama continued to maintain the advantage with a 24-18 halftime lead. UNA outscored the Lady Lions, 9-8, also holding Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 33.3 percent shooting.

One point once again separated the teams in the third period. North Alabama shot its most efficient field-goal percentage in frame at 45.5 percent while going a perfect 4-4 from free throws. UNA also saw its largest lead in the third, extending the advantage to as much as 12 points.

The fourth saw the Lady Lions begin to mount its comeback. The visitors shot 46.7 percent from the floor while scoring its most points in any quarter with 18 points. Arkansas-Pine Bluff worked back to take its first lead since the opening quarter with a 44-43 advantage at the 4:09 mark.

The two teams traded leads an additional three times as clock winded down, but the fourth and final lead change resulted in Arkansas-Pine Bluff's game winner.

Clutter momentarily had the Lions leading with nine seconds left thanks to a go-ahead basket plus a foul shot. Clutter would miss the ensuing free throw with the Lady Lions getting the ball back off a jump ball with four seconds left. The next possession saw Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Bowen beat the buzzer from three to clinch the road win.
