JACKSONVILLE (February 8, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team's three-game win streak came to a halt on Saturday in Jacksonville, as the Lions fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins in Atlantic Sun Conference play, 78-61.
The loss evens the season series, as the Lions won 73-57 at home on Jan. 4.
Three Lions finished in double figures, led by juniors India Howard and Emma Kate Tittle along with senior Charity Gallegos. Howard secured the team high with 14 points, going 6-10 from the field to go with five rebounds and a team-leading one block. Tittle was the second-leading scorer with 12 points. Gallegos rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points.
Graduate Sara Wohlgemuth filled the stat sheet against the Dolphins, securing the most rebounds, assists and steals on the team. The guard registered eight rebounds and five assists, also tying her career high with four steals.
A 15-3 run midway through the first quarter gave Jacksonville (12-12, 6-6 ASUN) the early advantage. However, North Alabama (12-11, 7-5 ASUN) answered with a 6-0 run and trailed by just three. Strong play in the second and fourth quarters allowed the Dolphins to secure the home win.
North Alabama improved its shooting percentages from the first to the second quarter, going from 35.29 percent from the field to 46.15 percent. The Dolphins continued to put up points despite UNA's improved quarter to take a 40-31 lead into halftime. North Alabama ended the period with momentum, going on a 10-3 scoring run to cut a 16-point deficit to single digits after two quarters.
The third quarter was even, but the Dolphins shot over 52 percent in the final frame to seal the home win.
North Alabama is back on the road for ASUN play on Wednesday, Feb. 12, facing the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in Conway at 6:30 p.m.
