Men’s Tennis readies for conference home opener versus Lipscomb

Lions carry multiple winning streaks into Wednesday’s bout

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 18, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team preps for its first home dual of Atlantic Sun Conference Play on Wednesday, March 19 versus the Lipscomb Bisons in Florence.

The Lions return to Florence to kick off the home conference slate, facing the Bisons in hopes of a 3-0 start in ASUN play. North Alabama also looks to remain unbeaten at home, going for its sixth win in as many contests.

The dual serves as doubleheader with UNA Women's Tennis, who opens the day against the Bisons at 11 a.m.

First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the UNA Tennis Courts. Live stats will be available with the link becoming available closer to match time.

LAST TIME OUT:
North Alabama opened the conference schedule with a 2-0 weekend with wins at Austin Peay and Bellarmine. The Lions rolled to a 7-0 sweep over the Governors to start, then used a strong team effort in singles to secure a 4-3 comeback victory over the Knights.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: UNA carries a five-dual winning streak into the matchup with Lipscomb, also sporting a 5-0 record in home duals. The Lions look to continue its home dominance with North Alabama playing at home in four of its next six duals. On the season, UNA is winning nearly 70 percent of its singles matches with 69.7 percent rate while victorious in 58.8 percent of its doubles matches. The Lions have three players with only one loss in singles play: freshman Satoru Nakajima (9-1), sophomore Alberto Altur (8-1) and freshman Samu Dominguez (6-1). Additionally, the sophomore tandem of Birtan Duran (8-5 singles record) and Izan Orgiles (7-3 singles record) are both having strong seasons in singles play. In doubles, five UNA players (senior Nazar Fedoryshyn, Altur, Duran, Orgiles and Dominguez) have secured at least five wins.

SCOUTING LIPSCOMB: The Bisons are 7-7 on the season with a 2-0 ASUN record, looking to continue its winning ways with a trip to Florence. Last time out, Lipscomb took two wins against conference foes with a 4-3 win versus Bellarmine and 5-2 victory at Austin Peay. The Bisons win doubles matches at a 47.8 percent rate while victorious in singles with a 55.8 percent win rate. Facundo Perlov leads the team with 18 singles wins, and teammate Oliver Thoeny has the team high in doubles wins with 11. Lipscomb is led by third-year head coach Ben Roeser.

SERIES HISTORY: The meeting marks the 54th in the series history, with the Bisons leading 29-24 over the Lions. Lipscomb won the regular-season meeting in 2024, but North Alabama defeated the Bisons in the 2024 ASUN Tournament Quarterfinals last time out.
