ARLINGTON, Texas. (October 5, 2026) – The United Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards for Week 5 of the season Monday, naming University of North Alabama redshirt sophomore
Leo Glover as the UAC Defensive Player of the Week.
This marks the first career weekly award for Glover — a Florence native who prepped locally at Florence High School.
North Alabama has now won six weekly awards this season with four freshman of the week awards from
Xavier Johnson and one defensive award each for Glover and redshirt junior
Avery Howard. The six awards tie Tarleton State for the most in the league this season. In addition, Glover was also nominated for the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week this week and was an honorable mention.
Glover had a career performance in a 20-16 road win against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, recording a game-high 11 tackles to go with two interceptions. The safety added two tackles for loss and a pass breakup.
He and fellow defensive back
Anthony Young finished with two interceptions apiece to give UNA four for the game. The four interceptions are the most by a Lion defense since 2017 against Florida Tech. Glover and Young are also the first Lions with a multi-interception game since
Philjae Bien-Aime did it against Tennessee Tech in 2023.
This led UNA to its first road win since 2024 and its first win in a conference opener since 2017.
The Lions head into its bye week with a 4-2 overall record — the best six game start since 2016. The 2016 team finished 11-2 and made a run to the NCAA Division II National Championship game in Kansas City.
The UAC named Abilene Christian quarterback Tucker Parks as the offensive player of the week and Austin Peay's Denver Harper as both the specialist and freshman of the week. Parks led ACU to a 35-7 win over No. 17 ranked West Florida, while Harper had a touchdown catch and two special teams touchdowns in a 42-17 win over New Haven.
After the bye week, UNA returns home for two straight games beginning Oct. 17 against Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. at Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium.
